after 50 yrs in the trade the products we are using today are a load of rubbish. you could not beat things like walpamur oil bound distemper and paint with a lead base in it for lasting.

Walpamur Water Paint was a quality water based finish for ceilings and walls before the advent of PVA emulsion paints in the mid 50s. It wasn't washable, but could be wiped down with a damp cloth.
It provided a smooth finish (brushed on) which did not come off on clothes unlike the cheaper, more common distempers such as 'Marvo' and Siscolin'.
