On the River Tyne, workers who levelled the coal cargo on ships were called Trimmers.

I think rather than sorting coal, It's loading a coal barge.
The tubs obviously come up to the gantry on an endless chain haulage, then into a tippler,which rolls them over 360¬? on to the chute, where the rakers down send the coal into the barge, signified by the T beam. The women in the barge tidy & stack the coal. I believe it's at Douglas Bank Colliery.
