Im 52 and have always loved wearing a nylon ....ever since my school days. Obviously in the absence of the Pakama Company I wad delighted to find Rainmac in Midhurst who make a quality nylon mac, However and as Im sure you will agree, nylon mac wearers are few and far between which has started to make me question wearing mine openly in public. I would love to here peoples views both male and female on a 52 year old man wearing a nylon mac...mainly in the rain but sometimes just when it looked like it might rain

Hi Rob can you try and get Beth to write again we need to hear ladies point of view on macs.

Comment by: Beverley mr on 29th September 2013 at 13:13

what's all this about rain. when my late wife put he platic mac on to go out in the rain she laughed when i said its a shame to get it wet. Mackintoshes are for looking and feeling good. I wear my mackintosh a lot only thing that stops me is if its to warm. Ok they are handy for keeping out the rain.

Hello all

Just a brief note to say hello to the regular subscribers to this site. My son is still required to wear his navy and beige pakamacs. The navy one is for milder months worn on its own whereas the dark beige one, being slightly larger and longer, is worn over his gaberdine mac when its a little cooler.

Like all teens its a battle but he has to do as he's told.

Hope everyone is well

Anna

Hi Hugh why do you have to walk in woodland in your nylon mac be proud and wear it around town shops pubs anywere when its raining I am guessing your wife never worn one either

Comment by: Gareth on 17th September 2013 at 10:09

Hi Rob yes I am sure you get nice things said about both your macs why are you reluctant to have that coffee at Bodnant or here we love to see you both.

Comment by: Hugh on 16th September 2013 at 08:56

Much of what Alan writes about resonates with me. My then wife would not tolerate me wearing my nylon mac, it was seen as old fashioned and tasteless. But I would take stolen moments and enjoy a walk in nearby woodlands, fully buttoned up in my navy blue mac.

Anytime when it’s raining really but often on holidays, days out or shopping. We have only ever had nice comments about our raincoats and when other ladies see my wife in her plastic mac they often ask where she bought it. We’ve had lots of rain again today and one lady said it was nice we had matching pakamacs on.

Comment by: Gareth on 13th September 2013 at 09:57

Hi Rob its a pity you can not get Beth to write again were do you meet all these ladies who say they like plastic macs most women think its something granny wears with her rain bonnet its got a poor image its needs a pop star or someone like Pippa to wear them for that to change and sadly they think men who wear them are Nerds or cissy its an unfair world.

Comment by: Colin Porter on 12th September 2013 at 11:33

I think people don't wear plastic macs so much nowadays is because plastic tears so easily that they soon become disillusioned with it. This leads to ordinary shops no longer selling them. There's a lot more cars around so people can frequently make do with anoraks which in themselves have added to the decline of the plastic (and rubber) mac.

Comment by: Rob on 11th September 2013 at 21:06

We are surprised at how many people don’t wear rainwear on wet days so it probably is a fashion thing. The ladies we have met who say they like plastic macs have mostly been around our age and I am sure more people would wear them if they were sensibly priced and available in the shops.

Comment by: Gareth on 9th September 2013 at 13:39

Hi Rob its good to hear from you i really hope Beth does write again we did appreciate her comments i do not think anything unsuitable will be allowed again a lady who has started emailing us give me permission to say she thinks to days women do not like wearing plastic macs because they look cheap its a vanity thing bad news if that,s the case when you come to Wales call and have a cuppa then Beth can see we do not have two heads

Comment by: Rob on 6th September 2013 at 18:35

Gareth I am not sure I can persuade Beth to contribute again but if it helps she did wear her plastic mac and wellingtons to go in to town today. I don't think anyone asked her about her mac this time but I'm sure people thought she was well prepared for the weather!

Comment by: Gareth on 5th September 2013 at 13:55

I would like to give a big thank you to a lady who emailed me and told me all about her macs and how she loved them she wishes to remain private any body else feel free

Comment by: Gareth on 2nd September 2013 at 14:02

Is there any ladies reading why not give your opinions on macs we seem to have lost Beth and some others.

Comment by: Colin Porter on 25th August 2013 at 12:07

Hi Frank,

My reply a day or two earlier seems to have gone astray so I'll try again.

Unfortunately I didn't move to Blackpool until 1971 and the peak of plastic mac wearing was over by then although one or two did appear now and then.

Try Google images for 'plastic rainwear' and 'plastic rain capes' in Japan, China, Vietnam, Korea via the 'Translate' facility in Google Images.

Comment by: Colin Porter on 24th August 2013 at 12:10

Hi Frank,

I expect you're right although unfortunately I didn't move there until 1971 so missed most of it.

There were still a few of them around for a while after that but nowadays it's nearly all anoraks and cheapo ponchos.

It looks as if Japan, China, Vietnam and Korea are the places to go for sightings of such things nowadays.

Try Google Images with 'plastic rainwear' or 'plastic raincapes' then click on More - Translate, choose one of those languages, highlight the translation, copy it and paste it over the English words, then click on images again and you should find quite a variety.

Hi Colin I bet Blackpool was full of women wearing plastic macs on rainy days years ago I been born to late.

Comment by: Gareth on 12th August 2013 at 14:32

Hi Rob and Beth I really enjoy both your comments It would be a shame if they stop if it was anything thing I said then my apologies we would love to see in Bodnat or anywere if you are serious my offer of coffee still stands if you are genuine take us up on it Beth could show my wife the air vents in her Plastic mac are they any in yours.

Comment by: Colin Porter on 9th August 2013 at 12:00

Greetings Gareth. Yes I'm the same Colin Porter from Blackpool who's commented previously.
It seems most women only follow the current fashion regardless of whether or not it's attractive or practical - so long as it's the in thing.
Why did I think of lemmings and sheep when writing the above?

I found this website by chance because I remembered Pakamacs from my childhood and I have enjoyed reading some of the comments and adding my own. I was going to ask my wife to post a note about last Monday’s weather but having read some recent posts I’ve decided this discussion is not for us. As a final note I’ll just add that the forecast for Monday was for 24-36 hours of, at times, heavy rain and it was certainly pouring down where we live. Beth went shopping in town on Monday morning and as I’ve said before she often gets nice comments from other ladies about her rainwear. I was still a bit surprised when she told me that a lady had tapped her on the shoulder in one of the clothes shops in town and asked her where she bought her plastic mac. She said the lady was about our age so we think sensible rainwear is probably a middle age thing! We still can’t understand why the shops don’t sell Pakamacs but there again a lot of people seem quite happy to wear anything and just get soaking wet! In reply to Gareth we thought it might be helpful for your wife to know that Beth’s mac has air vents in it and it definitely keeps more water out than in! It seems there are lots of us who just think Pakamacs are great raincoats and if you see a couple wearing theirs at Bodnant Gardens in the summer it might be us.

Hi Colin that is so true are you the Colin from Blackpool that used to comment you just do not see many women wearing any kind of mac these days some of course just want to show the tatoos they have got

Comment by: Colin Porter on 7th August 2013 at 11:37

Further to Gareth's comment: women can have sex regardless of their age once they're old enough: whether they're in the mood for it or not: whether they're feeling energetic or tired: whether they're well or ill: awake or asleep: conscious or unconscious: alive or dead.

A bloke has to be on the positive side of all these factors simultaneously, and quite often need whatever form of arousal they can get. Women (including a couple of agony aunts whom I've told this to) don't understand this.

Muji have good freecut plastic raincoats if a bit opaque. I have one in black for City of London wear over my suit topped off with a black rubber souwester.

I also have one in white. The detachable hoods are too deep and monk habit like!

Comment by: Gareth on 5th August 2013 at 14:15

Hi Rob yes they do give a reason I had a number of lady friends before I married they all said they were sweaty and cling but the main thing was do you want me our my mac they just can not make the equation.

Comment by: Rob on 4th August 2013 at 20:04

I found that Van Allan were a Dutch retailer and by coincidence so were C&A. The other rainwear I remember from the eighties was Rukka and they were I think Scandinavian so perhaps Europeans consider plastic macs more fashionable than us, or perhaps they are just more practical. Interesting that several wives are clear that they won’t wear a plastic mac which is in contrast to many of the ladies we have met. Do they give a reason why not?

Comment by: Frank Barnard on 3rd August 2013 at 09:12

Hi Alan why secluded places to wear your plastic mac maybe the boys in blue would take a dim view

Comment by: Alan on 2nd August 2013 at 19:35

Hi Frank. l always wear the black/grey ones out which are mens really . But I have worn several others out from time to time it all depends on how secluded the areas are where l go. in the winter it is much quieter and of course plenty of rain.
