Our mother always kept stocks of Evan Williams' products which included Evan Williams Waveset for we 3 children in the late 30's and early 40's, when we were 2-4 years old, was a necessary preparation for visits to the photographer. He regularly took many sheets of Poly-Photos.
Being a boy I liked getting the waves of my hair between my fingers and crunching it until the Waveset crumbled and made my hair go back to normal.
I think it was an vital aid to winning baby photo competitions which my little sister did often and I did on occasions.
I ALWAYS USED EVAN WILLIAMS HIGH GLOW SHAMPOO, IN THE FIFTIES FAR BETTER FOR MY HAIR TYPE, SADLY WAS UNABLE TO FIND IT IN THE SIXTIES, NONE OF THE OTHER SHAMPOOS HAD THE SAME SATISFACTORY RESULTS.
I have a plastic container, probably about 3 litre capacity, moulded with the text: 'Evan Williams takes good care of your hair'. I wonder if this the same company? The typefaces used would suggest it to be 1950s or early 1960s.

my late grandmother was evan williams daughter would like to learn more about what happened to him .i live in hertfordshire uk
My mother's cousin known as cissi in the family was married to Evan Williams who owned the company. She was killed in a plane crash in the early 30's leaving a very young son called Edward. I understand that he is now dead but he had a daughter. I would appreciate any contact with anyone who knows her.
I remember that we always used Evan Williams shampoo which came in a paper sachet and which we mixed with water in a jamjar. If there was any left over, it set like a gloppy jelly which slithered through your fingers. Just the sort of thing children loved dabbling in!
